An accomplished financial executive with years of experience in the industry, Inder Singh currently serves as the Vice President of Corporate Portfolio Management and Long Range Planning with Cisco Systems, a major presence in the market for technology and technological services. As a central figure in the Cisco leadership structure, he plays an integral role in the company's corporate portfolio management, assuming responsibility for the development and deployment of portfolio strategies for all market, customer, and technology segments. As one of three leaders on the Cisco Investment Review Board, Singh also assesses and approves all investments in a $1.5 billion investment selection that includes equity deals in more than 20 global venture funds and 80 private entities.
In addition to his work in the Corporate Portfolio Management division, Inder Singh conducts regular assessments of the company's strategy regarding competitors. In this capacity, Singh performs careful analysis of key components of competitive structures, including management teams, business models, partnership ecosystems, and strategic chessboards. In the same vein, he also keeps a close eye on the Cisco's priorities as they pertain to the sustained growth of the company. In one notable endeavor, Singh initiated a collateralized debt obligation assessment of the company's $5.5 billion research and development spending portfolio and allocated more than $500 million for growth areas. As a principal on the Cisco "APAD Council,"Singh works closely with the company CEO to re-prioritize investments among the company's numerous growth initiatives, which include video, data center, smart grid, and cloud computing.
At Cisco, Inder Singh draws upon an extensive background in the field of leadership to spearhead a number of executive and strategic committees. As a member of the CEO's Operating Committee and Executive Vice President Committee, Singh serves as the leader of the agenda and decision queue, a position vital to the efficiency of the organization. In addition to working as the Co-Chair of the Cisco Investment Review Board, Singh is also a member of the India board, Public Sector Board, Emerging Technologies Board, Emerging Solutions Council, and the Video Technologies Board. Singh also possesses a history of success in the field of mergers and acquisitions, successfully completing 5 acquisitions in less than 2 months at a total transaction cost of more than $7 billion, including 2 of the largest deals in the history of the company. As the head of the M&A Finance team and Portfolio Management team, Singh spearheaded Cisco's five-year Strategic & Financial Plan and co-led the 2009 Cisco Financial Analyst Conference alongside Investor Relations.
Before joining Cisco Systems in 2008, Inder Singh spent two years as a Senior Vice President of Data Networking and Wireline Equipment with Lehman Brothers in New York City. He emerged as a contributor immediately upon joining the firm, covering more than 12 stocks in less than 3 weeks and picking up additional coverage from another senior analyst within the next 6 months. In addition to vetting a number of IPOs and establishing working relationships with CEOs and CFOs, Singh also earned the #3 spot on the 2008 Institutional Investor's hedge fund rankings.
Between 2001 and 2007, Inder Sing worked as a Senior Vice President of Communication, Data Networking, and Wireless as well as the Head of the Technology Research Group for Prudential Securities. During his time with Prudential, Singh performed in-depth research on coverage companies such as Motorola, Nokia, Cisco, Juniper, and Symantec. Additionally, Singh provided valuable buy-side instruction to analysts who later went on to secure positions as portfolio managers at companies such as Morgan Stanley and Fidelity. Singh consistently placed in the top three among revenue producers at Prudential and, in recognition of his accomplishments, garnered the Top Fundamental Analyst Award in 2003, 2004, and 2005.
Before becoming a member of the financial sector, Inder Singh spent 10 years with the AT&T Corporation/Lucent Technologies. After joining the company as the Manager of the Network Systems Group in 1992, Singh quickly scaled the corporate ladder eventually becoming the General Manager of VoIP Business and the Vice President of Business Development and Switching Business. In this capacity, Singh assumed responsibility for several aspects of the company's business operations, including supply chain enablement, product development, services, sales team, and profits and liabilities. In addition to forging a series of strategic partnerships with companies such as Microsoft, Intel, and Accenture, he also worked to advance projects in regions such as the Middle East, Europe, and Asia.
Inder Singh holds a Master of Business Administration in Finance from New York University Leonard N. Stern School of Business and a Master of Science in Engineering from Columbia University. Singh completed his undergraduate studies at Columbia University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
